MCC Group was founded by Mike Barnes in 1972 with the specific aim of providing a fast, efficient plant hire service to civil engineering and earthmoving contractors. Based in Midrand, the company now has a fleet in excess of 1500 large earthmoving units, and a staff complement of over 4000 employees. However, the original aim remains the same - by looking after our plant and motivating our people, customers' needs are met promptly and cost-effectively.

The MCC Group is a recognised supplier to major mining houses and civil engineering companies. All requirements are met in-house by project managers with access to the latest in construction and mining software. Qualified civil engineers, mechanics and blasting personnel offer years of expertise in mass earthmoving, plant hire and maintenance, either on-site or in our fully equipped workshops.

The MCC Group consists of the following companies, MCC Plant Hire has grown to be the biggest supplier of plant in South Africa. We supply to the whole of Southern Africa. MCC Open Cast Mining Contractors has grown to be one of the biggest companies in hard rock mining in South Africa. Other companies include MCC Specialised Products, Mutual Construction Company, MCC Aviation and Explotech. Over the last two years, we have significantly expanded our asset and customer base and we are now seeing the rewards of calculated risks and a significant amount of investment into the future of this country. We have an excellent reputation in the industry and we are well known throughout Africa and many overseas countries.

The plant hire and open cast mining companies are integrated with each other and combine to form a competitive edge in terms of service. They are able to pass on the benefits of economies of scale to customers. The plant hire company supplies the asset base, and hires out earthmoving equipment to customers as well as supplying internally to the mining company on the open cast mines. The mining company also owns it's own substantial fleet of machines.

The operations of the group are also dependent on each other, ie. we have one head office controlling the administration of all divisions, which also helps to reduce and spread overhead costs. Because the companies are so interrelated, the operations complement each other. MCC Group is quietly entrenching themselves on a wider scale.

MCC group offers you one of the largest fleets of bulk earthmoving equipment in South Africa. The fleet ranges from face shovels excavators to off-highway dump trucks, graders, rock breakers, drill rigs, bulldozers, front-end loaders, water trucks and vibrating rollers. All equipment comes from leading international manufacturers and is either new or kept in pristine condition by dedicated maintenance technicians.

MCC has strengthened the barriers to entry into the grader hire business, by operating a fleet of Caterpillar graders, 140G, 140H and 140M. A formidable force which MCC deploys nationally in many Sub-Saharan countries.
