It is envisaged that the establishment of the MCC Learning Centre in January 2011, will make a noticeable contribution to the profitability of the Company in the coming year.
Although the Centre will address all the training needs of MCC, the main focus will be on the development of professional operators to significantly increase the utilisation of our asset base and reduce our operating costs. The programme is structured around the key principles of asset productivity, machine care and safety.
The Centre boasts the most advanced simulator technology available in the world today, with important benefits being the accurate measurement and benchmarking of competence levels, the identification of performance gaps and the ability to focus training efforts on clearly identified skill shortcomings. Alliances and co-operative agreements with the OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers) of the major equipment groups has been entered into which will benefit the supply and development of training material, as well as industry-wide recognition of MCC qualifications.
Further developments at the Centre are:
- A sophisticated psychometric system for the testing of learning potential and pschymotor ability;
- An effective information system to document and provide proof of training for legal purposes
- An integrated supervisory and management development programme that will not only contribute to the productivity goals as mentioned, but will also broaden our skills-base amongst BEE candidates as pert of our employment equity strategy;
- An established feedback system to enhance organisational learning.
The alignment of training material and methodology with Company procedures and performance needs remains the biggest challenge at present and the bulk of resources are focused on these efforts. Logistically the assessment and retraining of current operators offers an additional challenge, but enhanced training capacity will alleviate this problem over the medium term.
It is envisaged that positive results from this project will reflect on the MCC bottom line within the next six to eight months.
